Today, the 27th of January, is Holocaust Memorial Day, and the date is chosen because it marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
Having visited Auschwitz many times, today has particular resonance for me. I feel very passionately that we need to remember and reflect and I worry that anti-semitism is on the increase in our country, and indeed, has achieved some sort of political legitimacy.
It is depressing to discover that, despite the efforts of many people and organisations to ensure that the past is not forgotten and that the lessons of history are learned, ignorance (wilful or otherwise) still remains.
