Far North & Orkney Tour – Day 1

So. The thing about the far North is that it’s quite… you know… far? It’s a seven hour journey from London Kings Cross up to Aberdeen even on the latest AZUMA trains. The post-COVID on board catering is improving gradually from the dog days of a bag of potato chips and a bottle of water. However we’re not yet back in the heady days of ‘Brown Windsor Soup starter, Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Spotted Dick with Custard for afters all served silver service on a white tablecloth.

We crossed the River Tyne at Newcastle

And then on through Berwick-upon-Tweed, the northernmost town in England…

For the golfers amongst you, we rattled past Carnoustie and then into Aberdeen where we’re staying the night.

That’s it for today. Lots of things to see and do tomorrow. See you all then.
