4 Trains to Montreux

This post may be a little shorter than usual tonight as I am absolutely plumb tuckered. Today we travelled from Grindelwald to Montreux on the edge of Lake Geneva. That’s where I’m sitting now writing this. To get here involved taking four different trains one of which had a five minute connection, and another had a three minute connection. With 38 clients this was not an easy job but my clients are getting well trained on Swiss railways by now. All I can say is thank God for Swiss efficiency and to the minute timekeeping.

The last of our trains was on the goldenpass line travelling in their restored 1930s coaches for a very different experience of rail travel.

Montreux itself is a very pretty Lakeside resort town, home to the annual jazz festival. it’s also the place where the world famous British band queen recorded all of their albums. There’s a sort of shrine statue to Freddie Mercury here and people come from all over the world to pay their respects. Since tomorrow would have been his 76th birthday there was a free concert in the main Square from a tribute band (Italian)… “We Willa, We Willa Rocka You”.

Tomorrow morning we get on two different trains to get to Zermatt where we will spend two nights in the shadow of the Matterhorn. Meantime I’m gonna hit the hay. Good night John boy
