La Cité du Train

Yesterday we steamed for a while with our friends at the Kandertalbahn, once again on a private steam charter. Video below….

Today was different. We travelled by service train to Mulhouse and then by tram to the Cité du Train. This remarkable and attractive museum is the largest rail museum in Europe. It’s beautifully presented and you sense real pride at work behind the scenes, from the man patiently, but with huge enthusiasm, explaining how steam locomotives work to the highly polished trains. A photographers dream.

On our return train to Colmar the train company seemed to have stepped up a gear and protected our 1st class seats for us (so we didn’t have to sit with the riff-raff)
