Ice Cold In Alice

Today we drove from Ayers Rock to Alice Springs, a journey of about six hours, and just under 500 km. The road was straight for nearly all of the journey, except for two turns. The landscape was largely empty desert. Australia is both huge and empty. The video below gives you a taster of what travelling these huge distances is like.

We stopped on the way, at intervals of about 60 to 90 minutes at various road houses.

You’ve probably already heard about Australian road trains. They are as big as they sound.

At our final Roadhouse stop, we did our best to re-create the famous scene from the movie “Ice Cold in Alex” but in Alice.

It worked… sort of.

At one of the road houses, there was a small monument. We have been travelling through the very centre of Australia. The monument marks the centre of the centre. Geographically we couldn’t be more in the middle.
