Steam and Pork

So, we’ve been busy. We travelled on another steam train, the Steyr Lokalbahn.

Then a tram in Linz…

And today, a steam powered paddle steamer on a lake…

And then a vintage tram…

And all the time we’re travelling around the country on the excellent OBB Austrian rail service.

Tomorrow is our last day, and we have more steam. This is an excellent tour and I’m greatly enjoying it.

One thing I’m struggling with is Austrian food. It is excellent but extremely high calorie. This is probably one of the worst countries in the world to be if you are a pig. I’ve been eating as local as possible, but almost everything seems to involve pork. and if it doesn’t involve pork, it involves massive amounts of sugar. Things I’ve eaten include….

This stuff is delicious, but it means I’m now the size of Pavarotti. I’ve also had quite a lot of sauerkraut which I like, but I’ve learned some important facts. Sauerkraut and Weißbier when combined have some significant consequences if you’re in a hotel room. Firstly, it’s probably best to leave the window open and secondly never, never light a match or provide other means of ignition.
